Setup Guide
Installing RCS Studio for HubSpot
This guide picks up from the moment you click Install on the RCS Studio listing in the HubSpot App Marketplace. By the end you'll have an RCS agent connected to a HubSpot Conversations inbox and ready to send messages from workflows.
Step 1: Approve HubSpot Permissions
After clicking Install, HubSpot shows a list of permissions (OAuth scopes) that RCS Studio needs to access your portal.
Review the permissions and click Connect app to approve them.
What Each Permission Is For
| Permission | Why RCS Studio Needs It |
|---|---|
| Read/Write CRM contacts | Looking up contacts to personalize messages; creating contacts from unknown inbound numbers; recording opt-in and opt-out states |
| Read/Write contact properties | Fetching property values for message personalization; creating the rcs_opted_in_agents and rcs_opted_out_agents properties on first install |
| Read companies and company properties | Fetching company data for message personalization |
| Read/Write lists | Checking opt-in list membership; creating the RCS Consent — {agent name} list when consent is enabled |
| Timeline events | Writing delivery and consent events to contact timelines |
| Automation | Registering the "Send RCS Message" workflow action |
| Read/Write Conversations | Listing available inboxes; creating and configuring a Conversations inbox for an agent |
| Read/Write custom channels | Creating the RCS custom channel and connecting it to the inbox |
| Read files | Listing your HubSpot file library for use in RCS messages |
After approving, HubSpot redirects you to the RCS Studio account connection page.
Step 2: Connect Your RCS Studio Account
What you see next depends on whether you already have an RCS Studio account and whether you're currently logged in.
If you already have an account and are logged in
You'll be taken directly to the RCS Studio scope approval page. Skip to Step 3.
If you already have an account but are not logged in
You'll see the RCS Studio login page.
Enter your email and password and click Log in. If you can't remember your password, click Forgot password to receive a reset link by email.
Once logged in, you'll be taken to the RCS Studio scope approval page.
If you don't have an RCS Studio account
You'll see the account creation form.
Fill out your name, email, and password, then submit the form. RCS Studio will send you a verification code by email or text message.
Enter the verification code to complete account setup. Once verified, you'll be taken to the RCS Studio scope approval page.
Step 3: Approve RCS Studio Scopes
All three paths from Step 2 end here. The RCS Studio scope approval page lists the permissions the HubSpot integration needs within your RCS Studio account.
Click Connect to grant access.
After connecting, you'll be redirected to the HubSpot Connected Apps page, which confirms the installation is complete.
Step 4: Create Your Brand and Agent
An RCS agent is your registered sender identity on the Google RCS platform — the name and logo your contacts see when they receive an RCS message. You create and configure your agent from within the RCS Studio settings inside HubSpot.
Navigate to the RCS Studio settings page (under Settings > Integrations > Connected Apps) and click Create agent to launch the agent creation wizard.
The wizard walks you through:
- Brand — your company name, logo, and contact details. If you already have a brand in RCS Studio it will be pre-selected.
- Agent details — the agent's display name, description, and region.
Once submitted, the agent enters test mode while Google reviews it. Approval typically takes a few business days.
When your agent appears in the list, click Open to go to the agent settings page.
On the agent settings page, fill in all the details — display name, description, logo, brand colors, and any other required fields. Use the Agent preview panel to see how those details will appear to contacts on their device before you finalize anything.
Step 5: Connect to a HubSpot Conversations Inbox
Connecting an agent to a HubSpot Conversations inbox enables two-way messaging: inbound RCS replies from contacts open threads in the inbox, and your team can respond without leaving HubSpot.
On the agent settings page, find the HubSpot Conversations Inbox row under HubSpot Features and click Connect inbox.
Choose one of the following:
- Use an existing inbox — select it from the list and confirm.
- Create a new inbox — enter a name for the inbox; RCS Studio creates it in HubSpot Conversations and connects it automatically.
Once connected, inbound messages to this agent are routed to the selected inbox as new conversation threads.
Next Steps
- Enable consent management (JOIN flow, opt-out, double opt-in)
- Build a workflow with Send RCS Message
- Understand what data RCS Studio accesses
- Disconnect or uninstall the app
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Redirected to an error page after approving HubSpot scopes | Clear browser cookies and try the install link again. Contact support if it persists |
| Didn't receive the verification code | Check your spam folder. If it still hasn't arrived after a few minutes, use the resend option on the verification screen |
| Can't log in to your RCS Studio account | Use Forgot password on the login page to reset your credentials |
| No agents appear after completing setup | Confirm your RCS Studio account is connected and that you have at least one agent. Navigate to the RCS Studio settings page to check |
| Agent shows "Pending" | Google review is in progress — typically a few business days. The agent will activate automatically once approved |
